Initial Response To Context

For this project, we were asked to explore materiality and senses and to respond to this with a product that incorporated the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, so with this in mind, I chose to respned to the life on land goal by recycling shotgun shells.

Understanding the recycling process

Once a shotgun shell has been fierd it is placed into a bin with all of the other. Then they are put into a large 1 tone bag which is taken to the recycling centre. Then they are shreded which enables the brass end cap to be separated from Hdpe plastic and then the brass can be melted down and then the platic is sent in small Qantitys however most of it is taken to landfill.

unfortunatly i have discovered that it is not possible to scorce the quantity of shot gun shells and have the brass removed before i use them. which renders my idea to this point unfesable. However, I will pivot and keep my original unsdg colse to my final outcome

With this in mind, i deced to create a light which was made using entirely recycled meterials for this i would use stainless steel piping as it is commonly found in shorter length as there are often of cuts from comercial aplications with this in mind i started to create some initial concepts and then took these sketches into the workshop, when i created lumin as shown in the poster below
